Updated: Oct 18, 2019

One way to fight stress is to realize that YOU hold the power. Sometimes it can feel as if you don’t have control over the stressors in your life, but in fact, you do. Listening to Dean Graziosi’s podcast titled “Stress Management-How to Make Stress Your Superpower, he shares his tips on how you can use stress to your advantage.

When we feel our stress levels rising it’s usually because we’re being bombarded with negative thoughts, doubts and worries. This is when you need to acknowledge the stress. Ask yourself where these thoughts and doubts are coming from and analyze if there is any truth to them. It may sound silly thing to ask, but you’d be surprised by just how many doubts and worries are manufactured by our own fears or insecurities. So you have to take a good look inside.

I’m guilty of this myself. One doubt that I struggle with well known to most entrepreneurs, it’s the “I’m not good enough at X to have people want to listen and buy from me” The more I try to ignore it the louder it gets. I have to acknowledge that it exists and not pretend it's not there (like that person you don’t want to speak to so you don’t make eye contact...or is that just me? lol) This recurring worry was coming from somewhere and after some intense soul-searching I came to this realization… there is no truth to it! Fear was causing it! The fear or failure AND to a certain extent a fear of success. I’m not going to pretend like I don’t still wrestle with this, BUT it does help me to know the cause because now I can find resources to help deal with it.

Another strategy that Dean gives is to fight the stress with getting clearer on certain aspects in your life. Imagine that you’re taking a vacation to Hawaii tomorrow but you don’t know which airline you’re flying with, what hotel you’re staying at or even how long you’ll be there for. Do you know how stressful that would be? Getting clear on certain things in your life, like you want or don’t want and what you need to do to get there, can help deal with some of the stress that comes from the unknown. As a person who struggles with chronic indecisivitis (yes, that’s a word... in my head lol) I can’t tell you the number of times I have been stressed simply because I wasn’t clear on something because I hadn’t made up my mind. Do yourself a favor and just take some time to get clarity, get a destination so the trip doesn’t stress you out.
